The Long Way Home
The Long Way Home
Original Mixed Media Artwork on Gallery Panel
Approx. 20 × 24 inches
There are seasons of life when we search for answers everywhere except within ourselves.
The Long Way Home was created during one of those seasons.
A single eye emerges from layers of vintage newspapers and magazines from the 1960s, surrounded by fragments of stories, opinions, advertisements, and expectations. The collage forms a landscape of inherited voices, while the eye searches beyond them, looking for something deeper and more enduring.
Created during a period of personal transition, this work reflects a search for meaning, identity, belonging, and direction. Looking back, I see it as an early marker on a path that would later become the foundation of Path of the Spiritweaver. The themes that continue to appear throughout my work today were already present: observation, remembrance, transformation, and the journey back to oneself.
The title comes from the Norah Jones song that accompanied me through that chapter of life. Years later, I understand the title differently. The searching, the uncertainty, and even the detours were not mistakes. They were part of the path home.
